How can we focus more on Christ?

We talked about being thankful on Day 6 of our journey to focus more on Christ. Depending on life’s circumstances, it can sometimes be challenging to focus on the many great things in our life. Maybe we need a little help to keep our focus in check. What about a gratitude journal?

A gratitude journal or just a piece of paper is all you need to write the things you are thankful for each day*. When we force ourselves to put something to paper, it forces us to reflect on life. We can then see the many blessings we have been given on this journey.

It’s so easy to take life for granted. We have so many good things from the air we breathe to the food on the table that we can praise God for! Maybe it’s time to start a new gratitude journal and gratitude journey. It’s a new year, let’s do new things!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

*If writing everyday seems overwhelming, then write in your gratitude journal once a week or only write a few words each day! There’s no wrong way to start focusing on all the great things in our lives!

How can we focus more on Christ?

Many years ago, I thought that Sunday was the only day of the week to focus on Jesus. That’s the day designated to going to church. Then we could check Jesus off the list and go on about our lives, unless, of course, we needed Him for something.

But reading the Bible and these scriptures changed all of that for me.

1 Chronicles 16:11

11 Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

1 Corinthians 10:31

31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

I know I have shared these scriptures many times, but they make me think each time I read them. We must seek Him continuously and we must seek Him in everything.

It’s been a busy couple of days. My schedule is full, and I need more sleep. I was getting ready to leave the house for another round of iron infusions. I just learned my body was still fighting iron issues, an issue I thought had been resolved.

As I was grabbing all my stuff to head out the door, I dropped a folder with many loose papers that spilled onto the floor. This really isn’t a big deal because all I had to do was pick up the folder and papers. (They didn’t even get out of order when they fell. Thank you, Jesus!) But I truly believe God allowed those papers to fall to the floor as my breaking point to call out to Him.

I had been running around worrying about all I needed to do. Something I have learned over and over that I just need to give to Him. But what is it about us trying to do it on our own?

I guess the point today I am trying to make we have to remember to seek Him and go to Him for the small things like a fallen folder on the ground to the big scary things in life. And not only are we to seek Him in the bad things, but the good things too! Everything we do should be for be for the glory of God.

How exciting it is to have a Savior that helps us and controls everything! Join me in seeking Him today!

How can we focus more on Christ?

Scripture memorization is great thing we can do to focus on Christ. It is time spent reading and hearing God’s word over and over on repeat as we work to memorize the verse.

A few quick google searches on benefits of memorization prove that doing memorization work will help the aging brain as well as improve short-term and long-term memory.

Deuteronomy 11:18 “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.

There are many apps available on our phones to help with scripture memorization. Find one you like!

Through the years, I have learned that those around me and the things that I hear and see, have a great impact on my life. I have chosen to listen and read positive words each day. I have also found that listening to others who have my same struggles and knowing that I am not alone, help me get along the day as well. I hope to share my life, the things I am reading and listening for you to realize you are not alone and that there is hope. It's a mean ol' world, but with friends, mentors, and Jesus, we can make it!
