For my fellow nightly pantry grazers (past & present):
At first, I didn’t know or realize why I spent time standing in front of the pantry at night looking for things to eat when I was not hungry. I just thought there was something wrong with me or that I didn’t have enough self-control.
As the years passed, I learned that I was searching for something. I was searching for comfort. Comfort from dealing with stress, life, kids, disappointment, boredom, and feelings of unworthiness.
I remember some nights searching out the most processed, sugar filled snack I could find. It felt so good to eat it, but then I needed more. So, I ate more, only to hate myself more. The short-lived comfort I received from junk food only left me more miserable.
This scripture recently came into my life:
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
God is the source of all comfort!!! Isn’t that great news!!! What would it take for us to shift away from the pantry and open the Bible? What would it take for us to pray instead of graze? What would it take for us to listen to our favorite Christian song and feel it in our bones when we need comfort?
What is the thing that drives you to the pantry looking for comfort?
Stress, anger, boredom, loneliness, hurt, pain, sadness, let down, people, unresolved relationships, finance issues, problems at work, or just out of habit?
What would it take for you to let God have all those problems? What would it take for you to have complete trust in Him that He will take care of you, no matter how big those problems get? What would it take for you to let go and let Him love you?
Give it to God.
He IS the source of all comfort!
